Kayyem chairs national security initiatives at Harvard and is an analyst for CNN; Schake directs foreign and defense policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute. Thursday

Micro-Marathon

Four days before the Boston Marathon, run Boston’s “greatest shortest race” — the Half Half Half Half Half Marathon. This annual 0.826-mile “marathon” — approximately 1/32 the length of a full marathon — is open to families and pets, and is wheelchair-accessible. Stroll your way around the course near the Jamaica Pond Boathouse. Proceeds support 826 Boston’s free writing and tutoring programs for students in Greater Boston. Race begins at 6 p.m. Find registration, starting at $25, at 826boston.org.

Thursday-Monday

Battles Continue

Where did the American Revolution start? In Lexington and Concord, that’s hotly debated. Both towns claim to be the site of the first conflict of the war. To celebrate 250 years since the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the towns are hosting competing galas. Starting Thursday at Lex250, enjoy a five-day celebration complete with a re-creation of Paul Revere’s midnight ride. At Concord250, a monthslong celebration, commemorate the “shot heard ‘round the world” with festivities including a a block party and drone show on Saturday. Most events are free. lex250.org; visitconcord.org

Friday

Lanterns of Liberty

Celebrate the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride and the famous “one if by land, two if by sea” lantern signals. See a free, costumed reading of the play Revolution’s Edge and hear remarks from Boston Mayor Michelle Wu outdoors at the Paul Revere Mall (rain location St. Stephen’s Church). Mostly standing room, but some seating for wheelchair users and companions. 6:30 p.m. Free, but donation requested. oldnorth.com
