A JetBlue flight from Chicago veered off a runway after landing at Logan International Airport Thursday, coming to a stop on a grassy area, officials said.
No injuries were reported. A ground stop went into effect after the landing but has since been lifted, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, which is investigating the incident.
Flight 312 went off runway 33-L, which is closed while the plane is assessed and passengers are bused to the terminal, said Jennifer Mehigan, a spokesperson for MassPort, which oversees Logan.
In a statement, JetBlue said the plane “veered off the runway and onto the grass after landing.”
“Customers safely deplaned and were bussed to the terminal,” JetBlue’s statement said. “Safety is JetBlue’s top priority. We will conduct a full investigation of the incident and will work closely with the relevant authorities to understand the cause.”
No further details were released about what caused the plane to veer off the runway.
Emergency crews surrounded the plane, and passengers could be seen exiting the aircraft using stairs from an emergency vehicle, according to television news reports.
Images of the scene also showed a set of skid marks curving left off the runway to the area where the plane came to a rest.
Departing flights were being delayed by an average of 30 minutes, while flights heading to Logan were delayed by about two hours, according to the FAA.
The JetBlue plane is an Airbus A220-300, according to FlightAware. It left Chicago O’Hare International Airport at 8:41 a.m. Central time and landed at Logan at 11:49 a.m. Eastern time, according to FlightAware.
Wind speeds at the airport around the time of the landing ranged from 18 miles per hour to 40 miles per hour, according to Matthew Belk, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
