And just like that, the end of June is here. The first six months of the year have been warmer than average, with fairly typical precipitation, although 20 percent of the rainfall this year came in May alone. Now we continue with another warm Monday ahead and notable amounts of humidity.
Temperatures on Monday afternoon will reach near 90 degrees over most of the area away from the immediate shoreline. From Cape Ann down through Boston and across Cape Cod, temperatures may actually stay in the 70s to the lower 80s. The hottest weather will be from the Metrowest, north to the Merrimack Valley, and south toward Providence.
In terms of precipitation, it will be a dry day after any early morning fog dissipates. Sunshine will be the dominant feature. Wind will be relatively light.
A cold front approaches the area on Tuesday. This will bring clouds into the picture along with the chance for afternoon showers or thunderstorms.
The speed of the front will determine whether the showers occur in the late afternoon or early evening. If the line of showers coincides with the heat of the day, some of those storms could be strong to severe.
We will see a gusty southwest wind ahead of this frontal system. The storms will come to an end Tuesday evening, followed by partial clearing toward morning.
Wednesday features a mostly sunny and warm day. We’re going to be in the mid-80s with moderate levels of humidity, certainly drier than the day before.
The sunshine continues for Thursday and into Friday, with July Fourth looking glorious as temperatures will be 80 to 85 degrees, along with abundant sunshine.
Fireworks will go off without a hitch, and there’s no risk of thunderstorms, which can often pose a problem.
The weekend looks partly sunny to mostly sunny with higher than average humidity. Look for temperatures well into the 80s. Although I don’t expect any heat advisories this week, the hottest day will definitely be Tuesday.
Monday breakdown
Greater Boston: Look for mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the upper 70s at the beaches to mid-80s a few miles inland. It is humid with the chance for afternoon storms on Tuesday.
Central and Western Massachusetts: Abundant sunshine boosts temperatures into the lower to Middle 80s for Monday, with showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon on Tuesday, and temperatures in the lower to mid 80s.
Southeastern Massachusetts: Look for temperatures in the upper 70s with sunshine for Monday. There may be an evening thunderstorm or shower on Tuesday if they hold together with temperatures near 80 and lots of humidity.
Cape Cod and the islands: Plenty of sunshine with an onshore flow and temperatures in the 70s for Monday. Temperatures will also be in the 70s on Tuesday with some increasing clouds and a small risk of an evening shower.
Rhode Island: Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s north of Providence on Monday, seventies over South County. There may be a shower on Tuesday.
New Hampshire: Look for temperatures well into the 80s on Monday with lots of sunshine. There will be a few showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday with temperatures in the 80s and plenty of humidity.
