Weekend forecast: Some isolated showers are possible on Sunday

Great sleeping weather continues this weekend, with temperatures in the 50s when you get up on Sunday, with highs reaching the mid-70s in the afternoon.

Dew points will remain low to close out the work week, rising to the low 60s on Sunday.Boston Globe

Sunday will deliver a greater chance for showers as a moderately potent storm system pushes into the region. After a dry start, pop-up showers with a few brief downpours will move across New England, eventually reaching Boston most likely by early to mid-afternoon. The unsettled weather could even last into early Monday.

Rainfall totals should be light across the region on Sunday, with a few higher totals up north, which, honestly, given the flash drought that has built over the northern tier of the region over the past month, will be welcome. Temperatures will reach the 70s again.

This is the first weekend since spring when the sunset is back before 7 p.m. Evening activities are now going to require artificial light or need to be moved up. With the earlier sunsets, it’s also a good idea to be mindful of the fact that the mosquitoes are also coming out earlier. Some towns have even canceled some events after sunset.

Southeastern Mass.: Partly to mostly cloudy skies on Sunday with scattered showers in the afternoon. Highs to the low 70s.

Central/Western Mass.: Sunday sees more clouds than sun with highs to the mid-70s, scattered showers starting around midday.

Cape and Islands: Sunday brings more clouds into the picture with highs a degree or two warmer than Saturday. Scattered showers are possible later in the day.

Rhode Island: Sunday brings more clouds with the chance of showers. Highs in the low 70s.

New Hampshire: Mostly cloudy on Sunday with scattered showers as highs reach the mid-70s.

Vermont/Maine: More clouds on Sunday across both states, scattered showers during the day with highs reaching the low to mid-70s.
