Friday will see another great day, but cooler, as high pressure returns to the region, setting up mostly blue skies with temperatures slightly cooler than Thursday.

Quick look Friday

The morning will be spent under mostly sunny skies with commuting temperatures ranging from the mid-50s to the low 60s. With a general north-northeasterly flow, temperatures will build only to the upper 60s and low 70s along the coast thanks to the onshore breeze, while the interior returns to the mid-70s for the second day in a row.

With mostly clear skies at night, lows will slip to a crisp upper 40s and low 50s across Southern New England.

The setup — staying mostly sunny, a touch cooler

High pressure will settle over New England on Friday, with a clockwise rotation of surface winds. This means a more northerly flow will keep the coast a touch cooler than areas inland under a mix of sun and clouds, with more sunshine along the coast, including Boston.

Dry, crisp air funneling into the region from the north will keep dew points held to the low 50s across the region. This dry air will allow for temperatures to drop pretty quickly after sunset, which is now before 7 p.m., and will have you grabbing a light jacket if you have plans out on the town.

Saturday - partly sunny, pick of the weekend

Boston and New England will see a little change in the weather pattern over the weekend. Saturday looks like the pick of the weekend, with high pressure making a slow exit from the region. This will lead to a mostly dry day, but with increasing clouds as our next system approaches.

A spot shower or two may pop up in the afternoon, but should stay to the north and west of Boston. Any developing showers should be very brief with minimal accumulation.

Highs will reach the mid-70s across the region, staying in the upper 60s along the immediate coast north and south of Boston.

Sunday - possible showers

Sunday will deliver a greater chance for showers as a moderately potent cold front pushes into the region. After a dry start, pop-up showers with a few brief downpours will move across New England, eventually reaching Boston most likely by early to mid-afternoon. Scattered showers could linger into the evening and Monday morning.

Rainfall totals should be light across the region on Sunday, with a few higher totals up north, which, honestly, given the flash drought that has built over the northern tier of the region over the past month, will be welcome.

A flip to a southerly flow ahead of Sunday’s cold front will bring temperatures to the mid-70s.
