If you were away from the coastline on Sunday, it felt like a summer day, with temperatures reaching the low and mid-80s. A sea breeze kept Logan Airport in the lower 70s and even 60s at times.
This October dry, warming trend isn’t over. The next two days are likely the warmest back-to-back days we’re going to see perhaps the rest of the year.

Many spots will be at or above 80 degrees on Monday, with several spots getting into the mid-80s. The record high temperature for Boston is 86 for Monday and a whopping 90 degrees on Tuesday. There’s an outside chance we could get close to toppling Monday’s record if the wind does not turn on shore, but we are not going to get near 90 on Tuesday, I can promise you that.
With the southerly flow and the warm air in place, the next two days will be a good chance to get outside and enjoy this taste of summer. It will be a bit breezy on Tuesday as warm and moderately humid air funnels in.

Of course, all this sunny, dry weather has its problems, and especially over the islands and Cape Cod, where a full-blown drought is ongoing.

Humidity will be noticeable the next couple of days as dew points get into the 60s. This will also prevent nighttime low temperatures from getting very cool, with Boston perhaps staying at or above 60 Monday and Tuesday evening. Even the suburbs will be well into the 50s.

Rain midweek
But it is October, and this kind of warm weather is not going to last. A strong cold front is approaching and will put an end to the fanfare on Wednesday. For rain watchers, there is good news. As this front approaches, it’s going to pull up moisture from the south, meaning that the air will be primed for some showers, downpours, and perhaps even the rumble of thunder.

The morning commute on Wednesday looks wet, and although it will feel a little bit mild when you get up, it’ll turn notably cooler as the rain continues at least the first part of the day.

Looking ahead
Clearing takes place Wednesday night, and temperatures tumble to autumnal levels into the 40s. With sunshine, it gets towards 60 on Thursday and into the low to mid-60s on Friday with continued dry weather. An early look at the weekend also provides more sunshine with temperatures in the 60s.
