Your TV GPS, a look at the week ahead in television, appears every Monday morning on BostonGlobe.com. Today’s column covers Oct. 6-12.

Miles Heizer (“Parenthood”) stars in the Netflix dramedy “Boots,” out Oct. 9, about a closeted young gay man who joins the Marines alongside his best friend in the ’90s. The series is based on a memoir, “The Pink Marine,” by Greg Cope White and boasts one of the final executive producer credits from TV legend Norman Lear (“Maude,” “All in the Family”), who died in 2023.

ABC’s juggernaut “Grey’s Anatomy” returns for its 22nd season of soapy medical drama Oct. 9 at 10 p.m., as the medical staff grapples with the aftermath of an explosion at the hospital. The trailer for the new season is light on details about who survived, so those worried about Miranda Bailey better tune in. They wouldn’t kill Bailey, would they? Bay State native Ellen Pompeo won’t be back for every episode, but remains a presence on the show (her character is now splitting time between Seattle and Boston, naturally).

The Alaska-set thriller “The Last Frontier” (out Oct. 10 on Apple TV+) comes courtesy of Jon Bokenkamp, who created the James Spader series “The Blacklist.” This new series follows Jason Clarke’s US Marshal as he tries to investigate the aftermath of a crashed prison transport plane, and recover the surviving prisoners. The series costars Haley Bennett, Alfre Woodard, Dominic Cooper, and Simone Kessell (lately and memorably of “Yellowjackets”).

Tim Robinson may be our great portrayer of masculine discomfort. In “I Think You Should Leave,” his much-memed Netflix sketch comedy series, and “Friendship,” his recent movie about the troubled bond between two men, he’s mastered the depiction of a man on the edge, generally in the face of some kind of unpleasant social interaction. In his latest series, “The Chair Company,” out Oct. 12 on HBO, his corporate executive becomes convinced that a vast conspiracy is at play.

CBS procedural “Elsbeth” returns for a new season of its titular detective wearing outfits so bright you may need sunglasses to watch the show. Season 3 premieres Sunday at 9:30 p.m. before moving to its usual time slot Thursdays at 10 p.m. on Oct. 16. You can stop and start your way through the trailer to see which celebrities will appear this season, though the most exciting may be Stephen Colbert. David Cross, Andy Richter, Julia Fox, and William Jackson Harper also pop up in the trailer, so you can look forward to Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) catching them committing homicides (I mean, come on: The celebrity guest almost always does it.)

Screen icon Kathy Bates didn’t walk away with an Emmy this year for her starring role on “Matlock,” but she earned a nomination for her work on this new take on the classic mystery series. The series was a bona fide hit, drawing viewers interested in the show’s twist on the premise (her “Mattie” Matlock has joined a law firm under false pretenses to uncover the truth about her daughter’s death), as well as Bates’s commanding performance. The show returns for a new season on Oct. 12 at 8:30 p.m. on CBS before moving to its usual time slot on Thursdays at 9 p.m.
