Ron Harper Jr. earns two-way contract with Celtics

Celtics guard/forward Ron Harper Jr. will play this year on a two-way contract, according to the team Thursday night. Terms of the deal were not announced.

The 25-year-old appeared in three preseason games and averaged 4.3 points and 1.0 assists in 10.6 minutes per game.

The Celtics signed Harper to an Exhibit 10 contract last month.

In four games last season with G League Maine, Harper averaged 22.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.3 steals while shooting 50 percent from the floor (42.5 percent from 3-point range).

Harper signed a two-way contract in January with the Pistons and played in 23 games with their G League team and appeared in one game with the Pistons.

In 27 G League games last season between Maine and Motor City, Harper averaged 18.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. He scored a G League career-high 38 points on Feb. 1 against Long Island.

The 6-foot-5-inch, 233-pounder has appeared in 11 NBA contests in three seasons since being undrafted in 2022 out of Rutgers. He scored a career-high 10 points in the final game of the 2022-23 regular season with the Raptors in a win over the Bucks.

Harper is the son of Ron Harper who spent 15 years in the NBA and was second in the Rookie of the Year voting for the 1986-87 season.
