An ominous casting call went out last week for a part on “Boston Blue,” the new CBS police drama starring Dorchester-bred Donnie Wahlberg that premiered Friday.

An “Irish-looking” middle-aged actor was needed to play a dead man on the “Blue Bloods” spinoff, in which Wahlberg reprises his role as police detective Danny Reagan.

“The role involves portraying a deceased character — perfect for someone looking to gain on-set experience in a high-quality drama production,” the casting call read.

It seems the right person for the role emerged quickly, since the scene wrapped up by Monday, Cindy Weedon, owner of Toronto-based Twins Talent Agency said by email.

She did not say when the scene was filmed, who was hired, or when the episode would air. A spokesperson for CBS could not be reached for comment.

In a recent Globe interview, Wahlberg lamented that most scenes for the series have to be shot in Canada, which he attributed to financial reasons.

“Sadly, I can’t control the economies of various places around the world. The idea was presented that it’s going to have to be done not in Boston. And I said, “Well, look, we have to do it in Boston,” Wahlberg said.

After pushing to have at least some of the outdoor scenes shot in his hometown, Wahlberg said the team relented.

“I pushed as hard as I could, and everyone agreed, then, ‘OK, we’ll go to Boston. We’ll go and do as much as we can,’” he said.

Areas of Boston that were featured include Downtown Crossing and the Boston Common, he said.

A scene on the Common was featured in the series premiere, titled “Faith and Family,” in which the Danny Reagan goes on special assignment in Boston, where his son has joined the Boston police department.

Fans took notice over the summer as Wahlberg acted in scenes around Fenway and on the Common.

Gloria Reuben, who plays a district attorney on the show, spent a day in June with Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden, according to Hayden’s spokesperson, James Borghesani.

“Very nice people,” Borghensani said of the actress and a showrunner in August.
