The construction worker killed in a trench collapse on a public sewer project in Yarmouth was identified Wednesday as 61-year-old Miguel Reis of Fall River, Yarmouth town officials said.
One of two other workers injured in Tuesday’s collapse on South Shore Drive remained hospitalized, town officials said in a press release.
The condition of a second worker taken to a hospital on Tuesday was not disclosed in the release.
The collapse occurred shortly before 9 a.m. at the worksite at 125 South Shore Drive, adjacent to Parker’s River Beach, the Yarmouth Fire Department said in a statement.
Rescue crews from across Cape Cod converged on the site, working for hours to free two trapped workers, one of whom was airlifted to a hospital in Rhode Island.
With the help of firefighters, a third worker was able to self-extricate, Arrascue said. He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment, officials said Tuesday.
The investigation continued on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, construction vehicles and equipment marked with the logo Revoli Construction Co. remained beside the trench as firefighters worked to rescue the workers.
Revoli Construction Co. did not comment at the site on Tuesday. The Franklin-based company did not return a call from the Globe on Wednesday seeking comment.
Yarmouth officials referred all further questions to the Cape & Islands district attorney’s office. The office did not return calls from the Globe requesting comment on Wednesday.
