Man struck by MBTA commuter rail train in Haverhill dies from injuries, Transit Police say

A man who was struck by an MBTA commuter rail train in Haverhill early Tuesday has died from his injuries, MBTA Transit Police said.

The incident took place around 6:11 a.m. when he “intentionally entered the right of way” of the Cross Road railroad track crossing, Transit Police Superintendent-in-Chief Richard Sullivan wrote in a statement.

The man, whose name was not released Tuesday, was removed from the scene by Haverhill firefighters who used a UTV to reach him, according to dispatch recordings by Broadcastify.

The man was later pronounced deceased “as a result of injuries sustained,” Sullivan wrote.

The man’s death is under investigation by Transit Police and Essex District Attorney Paul F. Tucker’s office.

“On behalf of the Transit Police and the entire MBTA organization we offer our most sincere condolences to the decedent’s family and friends,” Sullivan wrote. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”

Regular service resumed on the MBTA’s Haverhill commuter rail line around 8:30 a.m. after cancellations and delays caused by the incident. All restrictions ended around 8:34 a.m., Keolis said.
