The FBI has more than doubled its reward for information leading to the whereabouts or remains of a Hyde Park man who went missing in Portland, Maine, in 2006, the bureau said Thursday.

The FBI posted on X that it’s “increasing its reward to $25,000 for information leading to the location of Miguel Oliveras, or his remains.”

Last year, the bureau announced a reward of as much as $10,000.

Oliveras, who was 24 at the time of his disappearance, was last seen on Sept. 2, 2006, around 1 a.m. at the Platinum Plus Club in Portland, the FBI said.

He was wearing a gray camouflage long-sleeved shirt with a white T-shirt over it, green cargo shorts, and white sneakers, the FBI said.

There have been no reported sightings in the past 20 years of Oliveras, who stood 5-foot-11 and weighed approximately 170 pounds in 2006, with tattoos on his neck, back, shoulder, and hand, officials said.

“It’ll be 20 years this year that my son disappeared and not knowing his whereabouts all these years is killing me,” Oliveras’s mother, Myrna Gonzalez, said in the FBI’s statement. “I need anyone with information to please come forward. Please, I need my closure.”

Ted E. Docks, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Boston division, echoed Gonzalez’s call for anyone with information to contact authorities.

“We’re talking about a son who never came home and a mother who has been living every day in the painful space between hope and heartbreak,” Docks said.

He said that someone “out there knows something, and even the smallest detail could make a difference.”

“Miguel’s mom Myrna deserves answers, and she deserves the chance to lay her son to rest, to grieve, and to begin to heal,” he said.

Portland’s police chief, Mark Dubois, said investigators haven’t given up.

“We have not closed the door on this case and continue to actively investigate all available leads,” Dubois said in the statement. “We are hopeful that new information will emerge that helps bring resolution for the family and accountability for those responsible.”

Tipsters can contact the FBI or Portland police.

“Anyone with information regarding Miguel Oliveras’s location should call the Portland Police Department at 207-874-8584 or FBI Boston at 1-800-CALL-FBI,” the statement said. “Tips can also be submitted online attips.fbi.gov."
