Aside from abundant sunshine and warming temperatures, Monday is seeing the winds ramp up across the region, with wind advisories in place for portions of Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island as gusts strengthen to 30 to 50 mph.

Strong high pressure off the coast will surge a south/southwesterly flow through the region as a strengthening low pulls through Eastern Canada. These contrasting air masses will keep the winds in place through Tuesday.

Temperatures will improve with readings on Monday well into the 60s to around 70 in Boston, and on Tuesday, climbing into the upper 70s in the Boston area and even reaching 80 degrees in Western and Central Mass. These are the two best days of the upcoming work week for sure.

We will most likely see a blend of clouds and sun both Monday and Tuesday. Monday’s clouds will be more of the higher variety with a few lower clouds mixed in, and Tuesday we’ll see high clouds.

Tuesday afternoon will get a little breezy as a cold front approaches on Wednesday.

I think showers hold off until midday on Wednesday or even later in the afternoon, depending on the speed of the front. This first batch of rain is just one of two chances of precipitation that are going to affect us this week. I’m not expecting a lot of rain Wednesday afternoon or evening.

One thing to note: The combination of the gusty winds, the low relative humidity, and the lack of significant rainfall means an elevated risk exists for brush and wildfires in Southern New England.

The front responsible for those showers is forecast to remain nearby, and an area of low pressure will move along it on Thursday, bringing another round of showers that look a little steadier and more significant. All told, we could see anywhere from half an inch to an inch of rain between both systems, but stay tuned for more specifics as we head into the week.
