A Worcester man was arrested Saturday night after leading Millbury police on a chase in which he nearly struck utility poles and swerved into oncoming traffic, officials said.
Kelvin Ucles-Flores, 21, is facing several charges, the town’s police department said in a statement. Authorities did not specify the charges or say when Ucles-Flores is scheduled to appear in court.
Police responded at 9:22 p.m. to reports that a front-end loader was driving erratically on Route 20 eastbound, according to the statement. Officers located the vehicle on Park Hill Avenue and activated their blue lights to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver failed to pull over.
Officers then began a slow-speed pursuit, following at about 10 to 15 miles per hour as the driver swerved into oncoming traffic and toward utility poles, the statement said. The chase ended on Martin Street, where an assisting officer brought the vehicle to a stop.
Ucles-Flores shut off the front-end loader but refused to exit the vehicle, according to the statement. Officers eventually removed him “without incident.”
The pursuit remains under investigation. Millbury police were not available to provide additional information Sunday afternoon.
