Boston started the week with increasing sunshine and temperatures building to the low and mid-60s. We’re about a third of the way through the month, and after a cool start, the average temperature across the region has been warmer than average. And with near seasonal temperatures for the rest of the week and a warm-up by the weekend, we may see this number climb even further as we head toward Memorial Day.
Quick look Tuesday
Tuesday begins with a sliver of energy sparking a couple of sprinkles south of the Mass Pike for early commuters, but they should break down rather quickly. Most folks in the South Shore stay dry.
High pressure is going to do a great job of keeping Greater Boston and New England dry and sunny most of the day. There may be a few fluffy cumulus clouds that pop up during the afternoon, but nothing that’ll block out the sun for more than a few minutes at a time. Temperatures will run in the 50s during the morning commute with afternoon highs reaching the mid-60s across most of Southern New England.

Most of Northern New England will follow suit with the nice weather, with a mix of sun and clouds, with highs reaching the mid- to upper 50s.

As we take a look into the latter part of the week, the sliver of high pressure will break down, and our next system arrives on Wednesday and intensifies a bit on Thursday. Thursday will likely be a soggy day across Greater Boston and really most of New England.

Wednesday, Thursday: Rainy days
I’ll break down Wednesday and Thursday together as a low-pressure system over southern Canada extends a warm front down through the Eastern U.S., sparking scattered light showers over Boston and New England.

By Thursday, as the first low pressure lifts farther north into Canada, a secondary low will form just to the southwest of New England and spark steady rain, making for a soggy Thursday across the region.

Multi-day rain totals will likely range from a half inch to an inch, with most of the rain falling Thursday.

Weekend warmth on the way
But the good news is that we should see some warm air arrive in Greater Boston and Southern New England by the weekend, setting up the chance for back-to-back 70-degree days with mostly dry conditions.
