SOMERVILLE — A person was assaulted with an “edged weapon” in Davis Square on Thursday morning and police closed off a stretch of Holland Street to gather evidence of the attack, authorities said.

The victim is being treated at a local hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said in a statement.

“The Somerville Police are actively investigating an assault with an edged weapon that occurred this morning,” police spokesperson Grace Munns said by email.

No one has been arrested in the case, police said.

Streets near the Davis Square MBTA station were closed off with yellow police tape around 9 a.m. and traffic was not allowed to pass through.

Around 9:30 a.m., about 10 police cruisers flashed lights while parked along Holland Street, blocking the road from Orleans restaurant to the heart of the square.

One police officer cleaned the ground with bleach while another took notes.

Police continue to investigate, a city spokeswoman said. No other information was immediately available.
