A Ludlow man is facing multiple charges after police say he threatened a dog walker and choked a pit bull while naked at a park Sunday morning.
Alexander Marano, 34, was arrested at the Ludlow River Walk and charged with disorderly conduct, threat to use a deadly weapon, open and gross lewdness, indecent exposure, cruelty to animals, and assault and battery, Ludlow police said in a statement.
The dog walker and the pit bull did not suffer serious injuries, police said.
Police responded to the River Walk at 9:21 a.m. for a report of a nude man threatening a dog walker. Four patrol officers located Marano and took him into custody without incident, police said.
According to police, a victim reported that Marano threatened violence with a weapon, attacked both the victim and his dog, and picked up and choked the dog, a full-grown pit bull.
Police called in a K-9 unit to search the area, but no weapon was found, authorities said.
The Ludlow Fire Department also responded to the scene. Marano was evaluated by paramedics but refused medical treatment, police said.
Marano was taken to the Hampden County Correctional Center in Ludlow, authorities said.
“Our officers handled this difficult situation with compassion and professionalism,” Ludlow Police Chief Michael Brennan said in the statement. “They followed their training, took the suspect into custody without violence, and no one involved in this incident suffered serious injuries.”
It was not immediately clear Sunday night if Marano is being represented by an attorney.
