Bridgewater Little League eliminated from World Series with mercy-rule defeat to Ohio

The Bridgewater American Little League All-Stars were eliminated from the World Series on Saturday, beaten, 10-0, and no-hit by Hamilton, Ohio, on Saturday in Williamsport, Pa.

The New England regional champions, who lost their first game, 2-1, on a walkoff home run by Bayonne, N.J., on Wednesday, surrendered a seven-run third inning and were closed out via mercy rule by two more runs in the fourth.

Hamilton hurlers Josiah Infante and Leo Feltner combined for a no-hitter, already the third of this year’s LLWS.

Bridgewater’s only base runners came via back-to-back walks to Jude DeSimone and Cam Hutchinson with one out in the second. But Infante struck out R.J. Zackrison and Anthony Sullivan, both looking, to escape the jam.

Ohio took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second thanks to a leadoff double by Feltner, an error, and a RBI groundout by Walker Osborne.

But poor command doomed Bridgewater starter Luke Schlatz. He walked six, including three in the third to load the bases with none out and a run already in.

Schlatz struck out Xander Kincade on three pitches for the first out, but Bryson Williams drew another walk to force in a run, and Infante knocked in another with a single to make it 4-0.

Zackrison relieved Schlatz on the mound, and got the second out on a Feltner sacrifice fly to make it 5-0. But sloppy play cost Bridgewater three more runs, as Ohio scored once on an error, another on a wild pitch, and the last of the frame on a passed ball.

It was 10-0 in the fourth after a walk, a bunt single, a sacrifice, and two more wild pitches by Zackrison. Anthony Sullivan closed out the frame, and Bridgewater went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the fourth to end the contest.
