We will have see some mixed weather this weekend that ends with rain in the forecast for Sunday, when the Patriots face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Foxborough.
The day starts cloudy, but then the dry air in place will need to be pushed out for any rain to start making inroads eastward. Sometimes when this happens in the winter, for instance,, the precipitation gets delayed a little bit because the atmosphere needs to moisten up. A couple of hours will mean the difference between a completely dry Patriots home-opener or a game that ends with shower activity.
• Latest rain forecast: The game should start dry at the 1 p.m. kickoff, but by the fourth quarter, rain will be moving in. So, if I were headed to Gillette Stadium, I would plan on having a poncho or other wet-weather gear. The good news is that there shouldn’t be any downpours, although it doesn’t take much precipitation to make things wet.
• Temperatures on Sunday: The cloud cover and the wind coming in off the ocean to the southeast will keep readings near 60 degrees (around 61-62). This will feel quite chilly, especially compared to our warm weather that ended the work week.

Week-ahead outlook: New England remains cool
Sunshine will return later next week, but Monday may be a transitional day with a couple of morning showers and some clouds lingering through much of the day. You should expect a cooler-than-average week with no 70-degree weather on the horizon for now.
