Pickup truck crashes into pole, knocking out power for thousands in Revere

A pickup truck crashed into a utility pole on Mountain Avenue in Revere early Sunday morning, knocking out power for thousands and prompting a criminal citation, the Revere Police Department said in a statement.

The crash occurred around 3:30 a.m., when a Toyota Tacoma struck a utility pole on the sidewalk in front of 398 Mountain Ave., the police said.

The vehicle and pole sustained heavy front-end damage. Police said no other vehicles were apparently involved, and the cause of the crash remained unknown.

The driver, whose name was not released, was criminally cited for negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Police reported no injuries.

The crash caused a significant power outage in the surrounding area, as National Grid initially reported that about 4,000 Revere customers lost power.

Crews restored power to many customers by rerouting electricity, reducing outages to about 800 while they completed repairs, according to National Grid spokesperson Christine Milligan.

National Grid said the repairs were completed and all remaining customers had power restored by 2 p.m. on Sunday.
