Boston police on Thursday arrested a man for allegedly stabbing three people in Brighton last weekend, authorities said.

Joshua Flores, 24, was initially arrested shortly before 5 p.m. on Western Avenue on charges of carrying a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace, police said in a statement.

After further investigation, police said, detectives “developed probable cause to charge Flores with a recent triple stabbing” that occurred early Sunday in the area of Cambridge Street and Harvard Avenue.

Police responded to that location around 1:30 a.m. Sunday for a report of a person stabbed, the statement said.

When they arrived on scene, officers found “three adult male victims” suffering from stab wounds, police said. They were all taken to area hospitals for treatment for injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, officials said.

Prior to the man’s arrest Thursday, police had received a call about a man, later allegedly identified as Flores, “swinging a large knife” in the area of Leo M. Birmingham Parkway and Waverly Street in Brighton, the statement said.

Police later stopped Flores near 444 Western Ave., according to the statement.

“Detectives issued verbal commands for the suspect to drop the knife, which he complied,” police said.

Flores was handcuffed, and police seized a large machete from the sidewalk, officials said.

“Officers also recovered a second folding knife with reddish brown stains on it from the suspect’s front right pant pocket,” the statement said.

Flores was scheduled for arraignment Friday in Boston Municipal Court, legal filings show. Arraignment details weren’t immediately available, and it wasn’t known if Flores had been assigned a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.

A motive for the alleged triple stabbing hasn’t been disclosed.
