Sharp swing in temperatures this week, starting with a Monday warm-up

This beautiful sunny weather pattern could last into Halloween weekend

It’s pretty remarkable the number of areas of high pressure that keep coming down from Canada, providing us with generally beautiful clear skies, light winds, and no chance of precipitation. This sunny weather pattern will continue through the entire week, taking us into Halloween and the first few days of November.

The differences between each day will be subtle in terms of sky cover, but we will see the sharpest temperature contrast Monday into Tuesday, when it gets much cooler and we actually lose about 15 degrees.

That’s because the high pressure regions have two sides to them. When you’re on the right side of the high, you have a northerly flow of air. When you’re on the left side of the high, you have a southerly flow. On Monday, we’re on the left side of one high pressure area, which will move into the Atlantic. This will be followed by a new area of high pressure, and our region will be on the right side. This is why temperatures on Monday will reach around 70 for many of us, but will drop into the mid-50s on Tuesday — and why the winds will switch to a northerly flow on Tuesday.

The cooler air will arrive during the day on Tuesday, and with the clear skies Tuesday and Wednesday nights, it will be frosty when you get up across inland areas.

The temperatures will start to respond to the winds flipping back around to the southwest toward the end of the week. The readings by Thursday will get back near or into the 60s, and we could get pretty close to 70 again for Friday.

The lack of clouds is a great opportunity to take a look at the night sky. Now we’re not going to see a lot of stars because the moon this time of year, the full Hunter’s Moon, is so bright. The moon peaks Sunday night into early Monday, but you can catch a glimpse through Tuesday.
