One person died in an overnight fire that swept through a home in Rockland, fire officials said.
Around 3:30 a.m. on Monday, firefighters received a call reporting smoke and a possible structure fire near 130 Centre Ave., the town’s fire chief, Scott Duffey, said.
Crews arrived to find a two-and-a-half-story house engulfed in “heavy fire” coming from the rear of the wood-framed building, Duffey said.
Four of the five residents were not home during the blaze, Duffey said.
“Unfortunately, there was one victim in the fire who was unable to make it out,” Duffey said. “They passed away from injuries related to the fire.”
Officials did not release the person’s name or age.
Firefighters, State Police, and state investigators remained at the scene throughout the morning, Duffey said. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
