The Barr Foundation and Klarman Family Foundation have teamed up on a major investment: the Barr-Klarman Massachusetts Arts Initiative, granting $25 million to 29 arts and cultural organizations across the state. The idea, according to Barr Foundation Director of Arts & Creativity E. San San Wong, is to help give these Massachusetts organizations the funding necessary to evolve and grow. Each organization will also receive training and assistance to help them achieve their goals over the next six years.
The 29 grantees include A Far Cry, Barrington Stage Company, Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Company One Theatre, the Dance Complex, Design Museum Boston, Eliot School of Fine & Applied Arts, Fitchburg Art Museum, the Norman Rockwell Museum, Now + There, The Record Co., and SpeakEasy Stage.

The Barr and Klarman Family foundations have worked together before. Notably, they teamed up to provide support for Boston’s cultural planning initiative known as “Boston Creates.” Now the foundations are looking forward to this statewide expansion.
“One of the things we’re really pleased about is that it means that there’s an increased kind of traffic and collaboration that will happen across the state,” Wong told the Globe. “It also means that people are bringing different kinds of community development experiences with them.”
