(Encore on Comcast) Val Kilmer is resourceful and affecting as a blind man who never courts sympathy as he takes his chances in love with a sighted woman. As played by Mira Sorvino, she's sympathetic, too, partly because of the awkwardness and anxiety she expresses. But the script (based on a true story) and the direction are more pedestrian, diluting the impact. (PG-13; runs through April 2)
(Encore on Comcast) Brian De Palma's big-budget throwback to the innocent, campy sci-fi of the 1950s. More shipshape than trail-blazing, its plainness helps nudge it into guilty-pleasure territory as it tracks a rescue mission after all but one crew member of the first mission is mysteriously wiped out. Tim Robbins, Gary Sinise, Don Cheadle, and impressive Red Planet visuals are the stars. (PG-13; runs through March 23)
