Wegmans to open Westwood store in October

Wegmans Food Markets said Thursday that its new, 122,000-square-foot supermarket at University Station in Westwood will open on October 11.

University Station is a 2.1 million-square-foot mixed-used development located adjacent to the Route 128 train station in Westwood. It was originally proposed a decade ago, but was bogged down by the recession and insolvency until a new development team got a scaled-down version on track again. The development includes a 350-unit apartment complex, offices, shops, restaurants, and a hotel. Stores that have already opened on the site include Target, Marshalls, and Nordstrom Rack.

The Westwood location will be Wegmans’ fourth in Massachusetts. The upstate New York grocery chain with a passionate following has stores in Northborough, Newton, and Chestnut Hill, and plans to open a store near Fenway Park in Boston in the next few years.

The Westwood store features a Market Cafe with indoor and outdoor seating and a wine and beer shop.
