Bianca de la Garza goes national with ‘Unanchored’

Bianca de la Garza has made no secrets about her national ambitions. The former WCVB-TV anchor’s new entertainment show may have focused on New England – watch Bianca hang with Big Papi or commandeer a Duck Boat – when it launched in January. But the studio she used was in New York, a clear signal that she had bigger ambitions.

Now, “Bianca Unanchored” will finally get that national audience that its host wanted, with a deal to expand beyond New England to seven CBS-owned stations in major markets such as Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas, and Baltimore. The episodes will run on Saturday nights for 10 weeks this summer — alongside her existing broadcasts on ABC affiliates in Boston (her former station), Manchester, N.H., and Portland, Maine.

De la Garza produces the shows via her Lucky Gal Productions LLC venture, and is responsible for selling her own sponsorships. (Dunkin’ Donuts and Neiman Marcus were the first to join her.) A spokeswoman said the show’s scope will likely broaden – it will “make a point of connecting from coast to coast” – with the addition of these other stations. But a New England emphasis, the spokeswoman said, will remain.
