John Hancock launches innovation lab

John Hancock has launched an innovation lab at its offices in Boston's Seaport District to spur its employees to collaborate and develop new products in insurance and asset and wealth management. The Lab of Forward Thinking, or LOFT, officially opened on Wednesday, the company said.

John Hancock launched a two-day 'hackathon' ahead of the opening where more than 100 employees from across the company pitched new products and services.

John Hancock, the Boston-based insurance firm owned by Canadian financial services company Manulife, also plans to partner with local start-ups and universities. The company has been in the Seaport for a decade is striving to connect with the start-up technology scene that has developed in the neighborhood in recent years.
