The medical software company athenahealth Inc. is cutting 146 jobs in San Francisco and Atlanta but plans to continue hiring in Greater Boston.
The company said it will focus on three research and development hubs: its headquarters in Watertown and offices in Austin, Texas, and Chennai, India.
“We believe by focusing on Austin, Watertown and India to fuel our R&D work we will be better positioned to advance and accelerate our innovation contributions and can achieve new efficiencies,” spokeswoman Holly Spring said in an e-mail.
The job cuts -- 102 in San Francisco and 44 in Atlanta -- represent less than 3 percent of the company’s workforce of 5,125.
Athenahealth has 2,150 employees in Massachusetts, where it has “ongoing plans to grow and hire,” Spring said.
The company makes electronic health records and other software for the health care industry. It earned net income of $11.2 million in the nine-month period ended Sept. 30, up from $6.3 million a year earlier.
The job cuts were reported earlier by the Boston Business Journal.
