WeWork to open fifth location in Greater Boston

WeWork has signed a lease for its fifth location in Greater Boston, this one steps from North Station.

The fast-growing shared-office firm will take four floors of an office building at 200 Portland Street, in the Bulfinch Triangle. The office will open in early 2018, a WeWork spokesman said.

It will include space for 1,100 desks, which WeWork rents to freelancers, small businesses, and — increasingly — outposts of larger companies on a flexible, monthly basis. The company has opened similar offices in Back Bay and Central Square over the last two years, along with its original Boston locations near South Station and in Fort Point.

A spokesman for WeWork — which just this week received a $4.4 billion investment from Japan’s SoftBank to fund expansion in Asia — said the firm is eyeing more sites in and around Boston.
