Late July cracker company expanding chips

handout

Nicole Bernard Dawes grew up on Cape Cod and named her company Late July Snacks because that was the point in the summer that she liked to spend time with family. She launched the operation 13 years ago in Barnstable, first producing organic buttery crackers and sandwich cookies, and later multigrain and restaurant-style tortilla chips. Dawes, 42, grew up munching on chips that her late father, Stephen Bernard, who founded Cape Cod Potato Chips, brought home. This year, Late July, now Boston-based, introduced a new line, Clasico Tortilla Chips in four flavors, crispy yellow corn, jalapeno lime, nacho chipotle, and bacon habanero ($3.79 for 5.5 ounces). The sturdy chips, made with organic stoneground corn, have a wonderful crunch and are spiced so they won't set your mouth afire or overwhelm a salsa or creamy dip. Perfect for a salad garnish. Pile on toppings for tasty nachos. Available at The Fresh Market, 11 Essington Drive, Hingham, 781-740-2066; Stop & Shop locations; Whole Foods Market locations
