Boston University announced that Nina Tassler, former chairman of CBS Entertainment, will give the commencement address at BU’s graduation ceremonies at Nickerson Field on May 15. More than 6,600 graduates and 25,000 guests are expected to attend, and Tassler is slated to receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters. Carrie Hessler-Radelet, director of the Peace Corps, will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws and deliver the commencement day baccalaureate address at Marsh Chapel. Other honorary degree recipients include former BU hockey player Travis Roy and US Energy Secretary Ernest J. Moniz.
Northeastern University booked US Secretary of State John Kerry to deliver the commencement address to graduating Huskies at TD Garden on May 6. Northeastern will also present honorary degrees to NASA Administrator Charles F. Bolden Jr.; former MIT president Susan Hockfield; “Spotlight” director Thomas McCarthy; and Charles Elachi, director of the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and vice president at the California Institute of Technology.
UMass Lowell landed journalist Judy Woodruff and Boston Pops conductor Keith Lockhart to speak at its commencement ceremonies May 14.
Meanwhile, across the river in Cambridge, MIT lined up actor Matt Damon to speak at its commencement exercises in June, and acclaimed filmmaker Steven Spielberg will be the featured speaker at Harvard’s commencement on May 26.
