WHAT A 10-foot tile mosaic depicting construction workers standing on cranes, taking up one wall of the bar.
WHOSE IDEA In keeping with the neighborhood ethos, Gather’s artwork is collaborative. This design was discovered through a Design ’n Gather contest run by the restaurant and neighboring business Artaic, which manufactures custom tiles. Artists nationwide submitted designs. California’s Joseph Lyman won with “Building Dreams II,” a depiction of those precariously perched workers, and Artaic then concocted a mosaic based on his vision. “You look at what’s happening in the Seaport, and the crane felt like a metaphor for innovation and creation. It was a cool homage,” says Briar Group restaurant marketing director Hannah Huke. “What you see in our space is what you see in the neighborhood — all these buildings going up so fast.”
