President Obama to headline Weston fundraiser

President Obama, who is coming to Massachusetts Wednesday to give a graduation address at Worcester Technical High School, will also be raising money in Weston for the arm of the Democratic Party scraping to keep control of the US Senate in this year’s midterm elections.

Obama is set to headline a Wednesday dinner in Weston benefiting the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, according to an invitation for the event obtained by the Globe. Both of the state’s senators, Elizabeth Warren and Edward J. Markey, are scheduled to attend the dinner, held at the Weston home of Joanne and Paul Egerman, two big Democratic donors.

Also slated to attend: Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado, the chairman of the committee, known in acronym-heavy Washington circles as the DSCC.

Tickets to the event, which include dinner and a photo, run a hefty $32,400 per person, according to the invitation.

Governor Deval Patrick will also attend the event, according to a DSCC official.

Democrats currently hold the majority in the US Senate, but political analysts consider control of the chamber up for grabs this November. Obama has held a number of fund-raisers in recent months to help the DSCC raise money to defend Democratic incumbents and attack vulnerable Republican senators.

Paul Egerman is the chairman of Warren’s finance committee and helped her raise the cash needed to topple Republican Scott Brown in 2012. A woman who gave her name as Joanne at a telephone number listed for the Egerman residence in Weston had no comment Tuesday afternoon when asked about the fund-raiser.

The Wednesday event will mark the second time this month a White House resident has come to Massachusetts to shake the money tree.

First Lady Michelle Obama headlined an afternoon tea last week to raise money for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the group focused on wresting control of the US House of Representatives from Republicans.
