A 23-year-old pregnant woman fell on the Orange Line tracks at the State Street stop Saturday morning, and was rescued when several people on the platform quickly jumped down and lifted her to safety.
The woman fell around 7:30 a.m., just a few moments after the MBTA loudspeaker announced that the outbound train to Forest Hills station was approaching. As four or five men were lifting the woman back to the platform, people there were yelling “call 911” and searching for help.
In just moments, the woman and the good Samaritans were back on the platform. A minute or two later, the Forest Hills train came in to the station.
About a minute later, an MBTA employee came to assist the woman, who was on the platform surrounded by about a dozen people.
The Forest Hills train waited at the station for a few minutes before heading to Downtown Crossing. The entire incident lasted no longer than five minutes.
The incident did not cause any delays on the Orange Line. MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo there was “no train in the area” and that the woman did not contact the electrified third rail.
Megan McClaire, a spokeswoman for Boston EMS, said Saturday afternoon that a seizure had caused the pregnant woman to fall. McClaire did not know how far along the pregnancy was, but said the woman and her child did not have any injuries that were considered life-threatening.
Boston EMS transported the woman to Massachusetts General Hospital, McClaire said.
