Stoughton man allegedly held mother at knifepoint

A Stoughton man was arrested Saturday for allegedly holding his mother at knifepoint and cutting her after she got a restraining order against him, police said.

Jason Hammel, 39, broke into his mother’s house on William Kelley Road early Saturday morning, said Sergeant Bob Welch of the Stoughton Police Department. She called 911 hours after the incident when Hammel fell asleep, he said.

Police found and arrested Hammel at the home and recovered the knife that was used in the attack, Welch said. Citing an ongoing investigation, Welch would not elaborate on why Hammel held his mother against her will.

Hammel was charged with assault and matter with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault and battery, armed assault with intent to murder, armed kidnapping, breaking and entering, strangulation, violating a restraining order, and intimidation of a witness, Welch said.

Hammel appeared in Stoughton District Court Monday for arraignment, said David Traub, a spokesman for Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey.

A judge ordered him held without bail until his next court appearence on March 15, Traub said.
