Three people were hospitalized after a car and a Boston Logan Express bus collided, triggering a car fire early Monday in Chelsea, officials said.
A 2010 Nissan hit the bus near the intersections Eastern Avenue and Bellingham Street around 1:10 a.m. near a bus yard. No passengers were on the bus, officials said.
After the crash, the car burst into flame, but the occupants had gotten out by then, said Chelsea Fire Deputy Chief Jack Giancola.
The driver of the Nissan, a 27-year-old man from Lynn, and two passengers were taken to the hospital for injuries that were serious, but not life threatening, Chelsea police said in a statement. A third passenger allegedly ran away before police arrived.
Police said the 47-year-old Hyde Park man driving the bus suffered minor injuries.
The Nissan driver faces speeding allegations, police said. Officers are also investigating a loaded firearm found inside the Nissan.
Police said speed likely played a role in the crash, but the incident remains under investigation.
