A Chipotle Mexican Grill in Boston’s financial district was “voluntarily” shut down on Wednesday after someone got sick inside the restaurant, according to a company representative.
The restaurant was temporarily shut down pending a “full sanitization,” according to a spokesman for the fast food chain.
Although a closed Chipotle may remind some of the chain’s late 2015 norovirus outbreak in Cleveland Circle, the cause of this shutdown appears to be less ominous.
Chris Arnold, communication director for Chipotle, said there have been no reports of illness related to the food at that restaurant. The employees closed to clean after someone got sick, which Arnold said was routine procedure and a “non-issue.”
The restaurant is expected to reopen on Thursday.
Health officials inspected the restaurant Wednesday and “found no issues,” according to Arnold. Boston officials could not be reached for confirmation or comment.
