In what could be the eighth drowning in the last week in Massachusetts, a 2-year-old boy was pulled from a pool in Lynn Friday evening and later pronounced dead at a hospital, authorities said.
Lynn Police Lieutenant Rick Donnelly said the incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. at 199 Boston St.
The child was taken to North Shore Children’s Hospital in Salem, where he was pronounced dead, said Donnelly.
Lynn Fire Captain Joseph Zukas said the two-year-old boy was found in a backyard pool by his parents.
First responders arriving at the scene performed CPR on the child, he said.
Lynn police and fire responded to a 911 call at a Boston Street residence for an unresponsive 2-year-old boy, Steve O’Connell, spokesman for the Essex district attorney’s office, said in a phone interview.
The death could possibly be the state’s eighth drowning in the last week.
Two college students drowned last week in the Chicopee River. A 20-year-old man from Honduras drowned on the Fourth of July in Silver Lake at Breakheart Reservation in Saugus. A 13-year-old boy died after being pulled from a pond in Worcester on Thursday. A 56-year-old man drowned that same day at a Westwood pond.
Elsewhere in the state Friday, authorities investigated the apparent drowning of a man at a Millbury pond. A 60-year-old man drowned while swimming at a Dennis beach on Cape Cod Thursday afternoon.
