18-month-old boy found in Easton parking lot

Authorities are investigating after an 18-month-old boy was found alone in a shopping cart outside of a Target store in Easton about 1 p.m. on Saturday, police said.

“The child appeared unharmed,” Easton police said in a statement. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton for evaluation.

Witnesses told officers they saw the boy with two men and two women inside Target, police said. Surveillance video showed the four people leaving the scene in a Toyota SUV bearing Maine registration plates.

A man called police at about 2:07 p.m. and said he had “accidently left the child at Target,” according to police.

The State Department of Children and Families is investigating the incident, DCF spokeswoman Andrea Grossman said in an e-mail.
