Mother of 3 fatally stabbed in Fitchburg

A 34-year-old mother of three died after being stabbed by another woman in Fitchburg Tuesday night, Worcester County prosecutors said.

Jennifer Narvaez-Colon, whose children are 13, 12, and 8, was allegedly stabbed by Wanda Liz Gonzalez, 33, who lived at the same address on Wanoosnoc Road, Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.’s office said in a statement.

Narvaez-Colon was found in the street outside the home, suffering from apparent stab wounds, after Fitchburg police responded to 911 calls at 10:17 p.m. Tuesday, prosecutors said.

Narvaez-Colon’s three children were out in the road “helping their mother” when she was found, Early said in a press conference posted online by MassLive Wednesday. .

Narvaez-Colon was taken to UMass Memorial Health Alliance Hospital in Leominster, then to UMass Memorial in Worcester, where she was pronounced dead at 12:36 a.m. Wednesday.

Gonzalez faces charges of domestic assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. She was found in a bedroom bleeding from wounds to her head and neck, prosecutors said.

She was arraigned at UMass Memorial in Worcester Wednesday afternoon.

A not-guilty plea was entered on her behalf. Judge Christopher P. LoConto continued her case to Friday for a dangerousness hearing at Fitchburg Disrict Court, prosecutors said.

Narvaez-Colon’s children have been removed from the home.

The three children were in the custody of the Department of Children and Families and were expected to be reunited with their family, Early said at the press conference. He also said they would be interviewed by the Children’s Advocacy Center of Worcester County.

The death is being investigated by Fitchburg police and State Police detectives assigned to Early’s office.

Fitchburg Fire Deputy Chief Thomas Dateo said crews originally responded to a report of a person struck by car. They found Narvaez-Colon and then found Gonzalez, who had also been stabbed.
