Alex Van Alen, a golfer and former lacrosse player, has combined elements of both sports in FlingGolf. It started on a whim. He bought a used jai-alai basket online, grabbed some golf balls, and went out to a soccer field for a throw.
“I knew right away that with the spins and arcs of the flying ball, I had a fun new sport on my hands,” Van Alen said.
He developed a prototype for the FlingStick and worked with a product developer to refine it. Now, the FlingStick is manufactured and assembled in Amesbury.
We talked with Van Alen, 46, of Ipswich, founder and chief executive of FlingGolf.
