The 38-year-old psychologist was the top female finisher at the Sweltering Summer 8-Hour Ultra Aug. 8 in Pittsfield, covering a distance of 48.331 miles in the allotted time. She will compete in her 103d career marathon Sunday, Aug. 16, in Helsinki.

Patrick Walsh: Back-to-back Lou Tompkins’ titleshandout

A rising freshman at Belmont Hill School, the 15-year-old helped the Athletes Edge 14U baseball team capture back-to-back Lou Tompkins Division B titles. Walsh pitched all seven innings in the final, yielding five hits while striking out seven.

A 31-year-old portfolio manager, he placed first at the Sweltering Summer 8-Hour Ultra on Aug. 8, with his 55.794 miles an event record. Soutiea has competed in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships, and will tackle his first 100-mile race in October.
