President Trump? ‘That would be great,’ Brady says

It’s no secret that Tom Brady and Donald Trump are old pals. Just last week, Brady told WEEI that in his younger days, he spent a lot of time golfing with Trump after they met in 2002.

However, up until recently, Brady has kept quiet about whether he supports the real estate tycoon-turned-politician.

In the Patriots locker room at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, Brady told reporters that he had no advice for Trump ahead of the GOP debate tonight.

Nevertheless, when asked if he thought Trump has what it takes to become president, Brady responded with a smiling, “I hope so, that would be great. There’d be a putting green on the White House lawn, I’m sure of that.”

The quarterback smiled again when reporters pointed to a “Make America Great Again” hat Brady has in his locker. Calling it a “nice piece of memorabilia,” Brady simply said that he thought the hat was a “nice keepsake.”

Trump fiercely came to Brady’s defense over the Deflategate allegations. Taking to Twitter, as he usually does, to give his perspective as the scandal played out, Trump tweeted, “People are so jealous of Tom Brady and the Patriots. No court could convict based on the evidence. They can’t beat him on the field, so this!”

After the judge’s ruling, Trump heralded Brady’s win, this time tweeting, “Congratulations to Tom Brady on yet another great victory- Tom is my friend and a total winner!”

Correction: An earlier version of this story misstated when Brady talked in a radio interview about golfing with Trump. He mentioned it last week on WEEI.
