Former Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., who was fired Sept. 10, will become the Red Sox’ first base coach, according to a major league source, replacing Arnie Beyeler, whose contract was not renewed.
Amaro, 50, who was the architect of the Phillies’ 2008 World Series championship team, has been trying to reinvent himself as a manager.
Amaro led the Phillies to two National League pennants and three NL East titles, but they have been a disaster the past few years, and Amaro paid the price. He also served 10 years as assistant GM for the Phillies.Nick Cafardo can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow him on Twitter @nickcafardo.
