Testimony continues in the murder trial of Karen Read, the Mansfield woman accused of backing her SUV into her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, and leaving him for dead during a blizzard in Canton in January 2022 after a night of heavy drinking.
The case has been the subject of two years of intense media speculation and legal wrangling, and the trial is receiving national attention.
Read, who has been charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of personal injury or death, has maintained her innocence. Her lawyers claim O’Keefe was beaten inside a Canton home, where a fellow Boston police officer was having an afterparty, and his body was dumped outside on the front lawn.
The trial began on April 29, and witness testimony so far has featured O’Keefe’s brother and sister-in-law, who spoke to the nature of Read and O’Keefe’s relationship, friends who were with Read as paramedics tended to O’Keefe on the lawn of the Canton home, and multiple Canton emergency responders who described what they encountered when they arrived.
We’re tracking the notable people who’ve testified and what they’ve said.
