Share your thoughts: Are student cellphone bans necessary?

For a future story, the Globe is interested in speaking with students and parents about the growing number of Massachusetts public schools banning student cellphones and other personal devices, such as their own laptops, tablets, and smart watches.

Schools contend too many students are using the devices during class to text one another, check social media, or play video games. Increasingly, schools are asking students to lock up the devices or hand them over during the school day.

The hope is that the bans will keep students focused on learning, prevent cyberbullying, and improve the mental wellbeing of students.

So we want to know: What do you think? Are the bans necessary? Do they work?
