This week’s restaurant roundup is bittersweet. Brighton’s The Pearl, known for soulful seafood, is temporarily closed as cofounder Mika Winder seeks a new owner. Boloco, a longtime staple of Boston’s burrito scene, is also closing its final location. The silver lining: New openings are underway in Milton and the South End.
Pauses: The Pearl at Brighton’s Boston Landing (69 Guest St.) is temporarily closed, as Mika Winder looks for a new owner-operator to helm the space. It opened in February 2025.
“The Pearl is incredibly dear to my heart, so this is not something I take lightly. Right now, I’m looking for the right owner-operator to take the space forward. My hope would be to find someone who sees value in continuing The Pearl, but I also understand that the next entrepreneur may have a concept of their own that is just as dear to their heart,” Winder says.
The Pearl first opened to acclaim at Dorchester’s South Bay plaza in 2021, serving comforting seafood dishes like crab dip and lobster Newburg. Winder ran that space with Malik Winder, Luther Pinckney, and Teda DeRosa Pinckney, longtime friends from Roxbury. It closed in January.
“To me, [this is] part of entrepreneurship. You build something you believe in, you pour yourself into it, and sometimes the next chapter means making room for someone else to bring their own vision to life,” Winder says.
Enduring local burrito chain Boloco is also closing its final location (50 Congress St.). The 29-year-old institution rolls its last burrito on Friday, Sept. 25, according to a social media farewell.
In better burrito news, Anna’s Taqueria in Newton Highlands introduces breakfast on Wednesday, Aug. 5. Visit from 7 a.m. for breakfast burritos, tacos, and bowls, plus horchata cold brew.

Openings: Two Pence Market is now open in Milton (2 Eliot St.), new from the team behind neighborhood favorite Steel & Rye. Visit all day for bagels, smoothies, provisions, prepared meals, and Toscanini’s ice cream. Alison Hearn (Ten Tables, Myers & Chang) oversees the culinary program.
Coming soon: Pop-up bagel sensation Brick Street opens a brick-and-mortar shop in the South End in the coming months (570 Tremont St.), joining a sister location in Southie (371 S. Broadway). This location includes a market with pantry staples.
