A Newton marijuana dispensary can begin recreational sales as early as this weekend, after state regulators gave it the required sign-off Tuesday.
Garden Remedies Inc. received its “commence operations” notice from the Cannabis Control Commission Tuesday, giving it approval to open after three calendar days — as early as Saturday. The store is located at 697 Washington St. in Newton.
The store has not announced details about its opening, though a recent update from Mayor Ruthanne Fuller to Newton residents said the store will be appointment-only, based on a special permit granted by the City Council.
Fuller also noted that the store does not have a customer parking lot. Customers are being encouraged to use the public metered parking on Washington Street or take public transportation to the store. A few bus lines run through the area, and the Newtonville stop on the Framingham/Worcester commuter rail line is just by the store.
Garden Remedies also has a final license for a recreational store in Marlborough and operates a medical dispensary in Melrose.
Assuming it opens this weekend, Garden Remedies would be Massachusetts’ 19th recreational marijuana store and the second in the metro Boston area. New England Treatment Access was the Boston area’s first store when it began recreational marijuana sales in March.
