Friday featured another action-packed slate with more than 200 games and 100 recaps in our sport-by-sport roundups, making it the third day in a row to reach both those marks.

1. Heavy hearts

We start with some sad news out of Seekonk. Athletic director John Moran died Friday after a battle with cancer, the school announced.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of John E. Moran, a cherished member of our community, a beloved athletic director, and an educator for 25 years here in Seekonk,” Superintendent Rebecca Kidwell said in a statement.

Moran also worked as a media specialist at the school and was a local youth football coach for more than 20 years. He had served as Seekonk’s AD since 2019 but had recently been on leave.

A GoFundMe set up for Marlborough football coach Sean Mahoney has raised more than $73,000 toward its $80,000 goal. Mahoney, the 2021 MIAA Coach of the Year, is fighting multiple system atrophy (MSA), a rare and aggressive neurodegenerative disease. Mahoney, who has been at Marlborough for 22 years, previously coached at Worcester State, Assumption, and Shrewsbury.

2. Milestones and moments

Bristol-Plymouth junior Emma Ericson broke Kenzie O’Leary’s school record of 141 career goals after scoring five times in a win over Old Colony. O’Leary is up to 145 career goals after netting her 38th in five games this season.

A pair of solo no-hitters were thrown Friday, with Bedford’s Alyx Rossi raising the bar by tossing a 19-strikeout perfect game to beat Needham, 9-0. Wareham’s Jolee Anderson threw five hitless innings with 13 strikeouts in a 13-0 win over Rising Tide.

It’s time for the round numbers. We’ll start with the biggest and work our way down.

O’Bryant sophomore setter Max Dong surpassed 700 career assists with 36 in a 3-1 win over Revere.

Apponequet’s Ally Arruda made six saves, including her 500th, in a 13-5 win over Dighton-Rehoboth.

Joseph Case’s Lila Alvarez notched her 200th career strikeout as part of a combined no-hitter as the Cardinals handled Fairhaven, 14-0.

Pentucket senior Kayla Murphy recorded her 100th career hit — and later added a grand slam — in a 12-8 win over North Reading.

There were a pair of 100s for the Andover girls’ lacrosse team as Scarlett Glass won her 100th career draw and Vivian Aloi netted her 100th career goal in a 13-6 win over Acton-Boxborough.

3. Walk-off wonders

None was more dramatic than Wachusett’s McKenzie Caron, who walked off St. Paul, 5-3, with a three-run shot.

Nico Alves got the job done for Gloucester with a double, knocking in the lone run of a 1-0 win over Saugus. Boston Latin’s Charlie Hauck also knocked in the only run of the game, beating Cambridge 1-0.

Franklin’s Jack Sullivan provided a single to plate two and give Franklin a 7-6 walk-off win over Bridgewater-Raynham.

Hopkinton’s Gabe Cafazzo and Mitch Simulis took advantage of a Westwood error, racing home in the bottom of the ninth for a 5-4 win. Lincoln-Sudbury’s second walk-off win in three days came when Ryan Gallagher sprinted home on a passed ball. Woburn topped Lexington, 10-9, when Mia Basile walked with the bases loaded to bring home the winning run.

On the lacrosse field, Winthrop’s Seth Sacco scored his seventh goal of the game in overtime to beat Beverly, 10-9.

4. Three Stars

We’re giving some love to boys’ volleyball here, as it often gets lost in the lacrosse/baseball/softball spring shuffle. Here’s three stars from the court Friday:

Obi Umeh and Parth Pawar, Acton-Boxborough — Umeh fired 24 kills and Pawar dished 40 assists as the Revolution topped Chelmsford in five sets.

Logan Uy and Vitou Seng, Lowell — Uy, a libero, came up with 36 digs and Seng, a setter, added 35 assists in a 3-0 victory over Andover.

Phil Vignaly, St. John’s (Shrewsbury) — The senior produced a triple-double, finishing with 19 kills, 10 blocks, and 14 digs as the shorthanded Pioneers slipped past Algonquin, 3-2.

5. Going, going, gone

Wednesday saw a barrage of home runs. Thursday the power stroke dwindled, but Friday it returned with a vengeance, with no less than 20 round-trippers across Eastern Mass.

Hanover’s Abby Hanna led the way with a pair of long balls in a 20-4 win over Pembroke, and several teammates performed their best Bash Brothers impersonation, starting with Duxbury’s trio of Megan Arseneau, Anna Craft, and Alannah Waters. Meg Downs and Alyssa Szathmary homered for Billerica, Julia Cohen and Maddie Coupal powered up for Bishop Feehan, and Tess Andriano and Tessa Francis went back-to-back for Marblehead.

The rest of the moon shots came from Wareham’s Kennedy Mooney, Apponequet’s Caleigh Venut, Chelmsford’s Zoey Moscato, Plymouth North’s Noah Mackenzie, Hingham’s Kate Schulte, Archbishop Williams’s Anna Iantosca, Ursuline’s Emersyn Smart, Manchester Essex’s Aliyah Doyon, Woburn’s Savannah Powers, Arlington’s Soline Fisher, Joseph Case’s Meghan Pereira, North Andover’s Mike Phelps, and Pentucket’s Kayla Murphy, who launched a grand slam to beat North Reading, 12-8.

Former Worcester Academy and Peabody star Oluchi Okananwa has entered the transfer portal after two years at Duke. The 5-foot-10-inch sophomore averaged 10.1 points and 5.3 rebounds last season and was named ACC Tournament MVP. As a freshman, she was the ACC Sixth Player of the Year.

9. No. 1 in the nation

Last weekend, Phillips Andover senior Dani Nugent won a national championship at 65 kilograms during the USA Wrestling Women’s Nationals/U20 World Team Trials in Spokane, Wash.

Nugent, who was ranked No. 2 in the nation at 140 pounds, was seeded 11th but scored wins over the top-ranked wrestler in her weight class, as well as two collegiate athletes to claim her first national championship.

The win earned her a spot on the U20 National Team, which will represent the United States at the World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, in August.
